Skincare as a Whole: Multidimensional & Bioindividual Skincare
After 15 years of treating thousands of clients with different skin types and conditions, to this day, I'm amazed at how actually different the "same skin type" can be, and how important it is to "listen" to the skin each time — even with the same client.
Through many clients' skin journeys and learning curves, my core approach to treating skin has become Skincare as a Whole.
I like to describe this approach in two ways: Multidimensional and Bioindividual.
Multidimensional skincare refers to the idea that "primary elements" — such as what you eat, your lifestyle, sleep patterns, physical and mental health, and stress levels — influence your skin just as much as products or treatments do, if not more.
Bioindividual skincare is the concept that no single product or treatment plan works for everyone. Because each person has unique internal and external traits, a personalized approach is required, rather than a one-size-fits-all rule.
Whatever the treatment goal — improving acne, pigmentation, or addressing sagging — the first priority is always the same: the skin's foundation must be free of inflammation and sensitivity, with barrier function working properly.
In most cases, we begin by restoring the skin's microbiome to a healthy state through a few sessions before moving forward — and reaching that point often takes more than a single session.
For inflamed skin, we don't jump straight into acne-specific treatments. Instead, we first review the ingredients in the skincare products being used daily. (I'll write a separate blog post on ingredients suited to different skin types.) Just as important as the products themselves is understanding the client's lifestyle and eating habits, allergies, sleep patterns, stress levels, and medical history. This matters because even if someone is using products that suit their skin, inflammation can still occur — and when it does, it's often due to an imbalance in those "primary elements", which is what actually needs to be addressed.
Since there's rarely just one contributing factor, improving everything at once is difficult. Instead, we plan gradually, at a pace that avoids placing unnecessary stress.
This is why we don't look only at what's applied to the skin — by approaching skincare from multiple dimensions, treating the skin from within and activating harmony, I believe we can achieve long-lasting results.
